Welche Firma denkt z.Bsp. schon daran, […]

Well, well, well, who would have thought – our dear comfy home is actually a Commie home ! I was always curious to find out who originally commissioned our house in Düsseldorf. Now the home to 4 families, it was originally constructed to serve as the residence for just a single person or family. And the remains of ornaments and stucco that were found during the restauration suggested a luxurious splendor quite uncommon even at the time of its construction in the mid 1880th. It was rather obvious that whoever had commissoned the building must have been rather wealthy. But even though I tried to find out more about that […]

Pretty nice chart to well keep in mind if ever pitched against someone from another cultural background in a negotiation: 25 Fascinating Charts Of Negotiation Styles Around The World | Business Insider. The design representation of the German negotiation style is revealingly minimalistic. Bauhaus anyone ? „Form follows funciton“ is just another declination of „a fact is a fact is a fact“. Hey, but did you really expect fun ? With a German ? In a negociation ? Come on……

Quite interesting book I just got my hands on: The Knowledge: How to Rebuild our World from Scratch. Luckily,  I got it in the paperback version and in German. It’s basically an interesting thought experiment cum manual: what if 99% of the human population of this planet was suddenly wiped out and our civilization needed a „reboot“ ? What would be the knowledge and know-how that matters most ? This simple scenario sheds an interesting light on how little we know about the things we actually depend so much upon – and how thin the civilisatory ice is on which we walk. Now what I would REALLY like to know: […]

In the unlikely case you should have the same problem as me, aka a terribly messed up web layout of owncloud pages in the web interface on any browser, after updating manually from Version 6 to Version 7, here’s the answer: ownCloud Forums • View topic – Home display messed up after Upgrade to 7.0. I don’t even pretend to understand in the least what this stupid line does and why it has to be removed, but it did the job 🙂

…isn’t quite as exciting as it sounds. Went to see the Costa Smeralda today and ended up in Porto Cervo to have a small taste of the lifestyle of the rich and famous. Feels strange, indeed: beautifull landscape, but strange mixture of 80 % overpriced luxury outlet store village atmosphere, 20 % theme park for the filthy rich feeling…. and 0% authenticity. Oh, and did I mention that menu cards were English first, Russian second with Italian coming in as a distant third ?
