I try usually to keep my temper with new hardware and stay positiv. But this one goes beyond my capacity of early-adopter suffering: Dell, hear my words: you blew it…. and you blew it big time ! I shut up for almost six months that I am trying to use this hellish piece of hardware officially called „Venue 11 Pro 5000 Series Tablet“ (….mark my words: „trying“, hardly ever being able to actually use it at all). It’s not a solution for mobile working – it’s a helter-skelter collection of faulty and buggy hardware components, one stacked carelessly upon the other. What I was looking for was a truly mobile […]

And here the gadget recommendation of the day: The Boogie Board Stumbled across this life-enhancing gadget by chance (actually in  a „print“-ad in the US-Version of MacWorld that I have subscribed to on ZINIO….. another big recommendation for a digtial lifestyle) – and everything else after that had Cesarian proportions: veni, vedi, emi…. I came, I saw, I bought ! What is it ? Basically an old-school slate / spiral note book that doesn’t run out of paper and remembers everything you write / sketch/ scribble on it. The funny thing is that this technology, a bit like eInk, has up to now received pretty little media attention. Probably because […]

Here a review of my first experience with the Windows Phone System (on a LUMIA 1020): After  much too long  of a wait, I now had the chance to have my first intensive encounter with this phone OS and wanted to share some first impressions. Those are much more positive than I would have thought. At the very start, the positive adoption curve  took quite a punch when the initial Exchange Setup with the company email server wouldn’t work. After trying too hard, I even found myself locked out from my company desktop PC („Your account has been locked“). But, hey, that was a good chance to be home early […]

So many people speak of Steve Jobs… and so few of me. Which is, of course, totally unfair. If I had had it my way, the world would have enjoyed the iPad at least 5 years earlier ! Never mind the technical obstacles. I am just as good at distorting reality as Steve ever was 🙂 But anyways, enough joking done: the iPad was a device I expected (…aka longed for) from Apple for more than a decade (the natural thing to do for someone who has lived the NEWTON experience). The hardware I’d expect to see from Apple now is simple to summarize: a dual-boot iOS/MacOS X HD MacBook […]

The newly announced xBox One pricing doesn’t really lift my mood: 499 Euro as launch price is NOT really mass market compatible. Do you hear me, Microsoft (….and Sony, for this matter!) ? OK, it may be problematic to get the units on the shelves in big numbers for this xmas-season – so it’s comprehensible that you rather take whatever you can get from the „real enthousiasts“. But do you really believe that you can indulge in „early adopter creaming“ for very long at times where multi-purpose tablets come with less than half the price tag ? There used to be an important market player from Japan who took a […]

How difficult must it be to upgrade Mac OS X to touch support – and build a touch screen into existing Mac OS X hardware ? OK, I should’ve known better: Apple made me wait for the iPad for roughly 10 years after the initial Newton experience…… to have fallen for the „everything’s much faster today“ propaganda makes we feel like an unexperienced groupy in  the aftermath. In case of doubt and to be very clear: I’m disappointed by the news revealed during todays  WWDC 2013 Keynote…..

Could somebody please explain to me how hardware product managers are rewarded / incentified in all the major notebook producing companies (HP, Lenovo, Asus, Acer etc etc.) ? I am really interested to try out Windows 8 on a touch device (yes, ME, the Apple fanboy of old days !). OK, Windows 8 RT is an insult to common sense. So only „real“ Windows 8 will do. From my perspective, the main choice to make is on the processor level, between powerless Atom and i3/5/7 devices. There seem to be decent tablets out there – but all with Atom processors. Personally, I’m still a fan of the „old“ notebook form […]
