Really love this print ad, advertising the advantages of investing and implanting Asian business in Singapore. And what a contrast to Germany !

Indeed, whereas anything new in Germany seems to be regarded instinctively as a danger (…because anything putting in question the status quo IS a danger in the common perception), others see possibilities and opportunities in the new.

Two next to untranslatable words express this general attitude very well:

  • Regelungsbedarf -> the necessity to regulate (…everything)
  • Besitzstandswahrung -> the preservation of the status quo (by all means against anything new)

So by the definition of this ad, Germany has dumbed down quite a lot in the recent decades…. and those that seize new opportunities will shape tomorrow’s rules. Why ? It’s like why the chicken cross the road: because they can !
